The AI calorie counter that works out how much is there

Photograph the plate, or orbit it with the depth sensor. kcalc.ai separates the meal into its ingredients and estimates each portion on its own.

Any iPhone / LiDAR optional

It measures the plate

Naming the food is the easy half. kcalc.ai orbits the plate with the LiDAR sensor on the iPhones that have one, separates the meal into its ingredients, and estimates each portion on its own. Photo and barcode work on any supported iPhone.

Capture
Orbit the plate. The depth sensor does the measuring.

Four themes / two directions

Built for both directions

A target is a band, not a point. You land anywhere inside a range and the day counts. The plan learns your real maintenance from what you log and what you weigh, then steps the band up or down each week and records whether you held it.

Four themes, two for gaining and two for losing. You choose on the first screen and can change your mind later.

  • Workout Demon

Dark, heavy and fast. For gaining.

  • Executive Theory

Dark, precise and unhurried. For gaining.

  • Forest Harmony

    Light and settled. For losing.

  • Light Days

    Light and buoyant. For losing.

The world fills in

426 classics, 192 countries, collected by eating.

The three drawn here are Pizza Margherita from Italy, Tonkotsu Ramen from Japan and Tacos al Pastor from Mexico.

Two people / up to 10

Two lights, one arena

A private pair, or a weekly arena for up to 10.

A partner is one other person, and nothing between you is ranked or scored. A party is up to 10 people, one week at a time.

Partners and parties

Four steps / one photo

How a meal goes in

  1. Capture it

Photograph it, orbit it with LiDAR, scan a barcode, type a sentence, paste a recipe.

  2. The pipeline works

It takes a moment, because it is doing real work. Watch it, or put the phone down and let the meal land in your day when it is done.

  3. Answer one question, sometimes

When the portion turns on something the photo cannot settle, the app asks instead of deciding. One question, and you can leave it: the app waits, then finishes with its best estimate.

  4. The day closes

The meal lands in your day, the total moves toward the band, and the week keeps account of how often you were inside it.

Sydney / offline-first

Two things before you decide

  • Stored in Sydney

Your account, meals, photos and depth scans live on servers in Sydney, and most of the AI runs on our own GPUs in Australia. Two things leave the country for the United States: the search that matches your food, and the AI fallback Anthropic runs when our GPUs are unavailable. The Privacy Policy says what each receives. No third-party advertising, and nothing about you is sold.

  • It works without signal

The app is offline-first once you are signed in. A meal you photograph or describe with no connection is saved and estimated when the signal returns. Looking a product up, by name or by barcode, is the part that has to wait.
